Have you ever taken the time to count the rings on a fallen tree? I find them absolutely fascinating. Not just that there are so many, but how were they formed? Examine how closely or far apart these rings are spaced and notice some years they are fat and others are so fine they almost fade away. The hardships this particular tree may have faced such as; fires, droughts, floods, bug infestations, human-caused scarring, a food source and scratching post for the neighborhood wildlife….the list goes on and on…

Our lives run a close parallel to most trees. Hardships will eventually make us stronger and in the good years we thrive. Some are the lone, solid Oak, while others are the graceful Elm and Willow whose inviting shade beckons. The Evergreens bring an inviting aroma and are a breath of fresh air, year-round. The Spring flowering trees and the Autumn colors all bring life and gaiety to those around them. Every tree has its place. What type of tree are you or better yet…what kind of tree would you like to be?

Trees are a magnificent part of our earth which we think fleetingly about and most certainly take for granted. Imagine if our lifetimes were the span of years that trees are capable of living…what would our rings look like?
